2025 Oklahoma PFA Report

Greetings from the Oklahoma Chapter of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. On Saturday morning, April 12th, 2025, we held our annual PFA meeting in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Marriott Tulsa Hotel Southern Hills in conjunction with the Oklahoma Dental Association Annual Meeting. Once again, this was a combined meeting with the Oklahoma Chapters of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. We had a total of 39 PFA fellows and guests (of the total 104 for all chapters) in attendance at our meeting. We were honored to have many distinguished fellows and guests in attendance including Richard Rosato, ADA President Elect; Allen Reavis, ADA 12th District Trustee; James Boyle, ADA 3rd District Trustee and President Elect Candidate; Michele Tulak-Gorecki, ADA 9th District Trustee and President Elect Candidate; Tamara Berg, ADA Second Vice President and Past AAWD President; Richard Haught, ADA Past President; Raymond Cohlmia, Past Executive Director of the ADA; Daryn Lu, ODA President; Lynn Means, Executive Director of the ODA; Mary Martin, Past President of the AAWD; Robert Lamb, Immediate Past President of the ACD; Scott Waugh, Past President of the ACD; James Sparks, Past President of the AADB; and Paul Mullasseril, Dean for the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. We were also extremely honored to have with us Lucynda Raben, 10th District Trustee of PFA.

Following the business of the International College of Dentists, our chair’s report began with a roster update of the Oklahoma Section. We currently have 121 total fellows. Following our financials report, discussion included finding any information on fauchard.org including our upcoming national meeting in Washington DC. Our memorial report included a moment of silence for the loss of one of our fellows this past year, Robert Herman.

Although our PFA Student Leadership Award winner, Katherine Sullivan, was unable to attend our meeting due to prior obligations, Dean Paul Mullasseril discussed her many accomplishments and achievements at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry that earned her the award.

Last year’s recipient of the PFA Distinguished Service Award, Tim Fagan, presented this year’s award to Robert Lamb for his outstanding contributions to the art and science of dentistry.

The highlight of the meeting was the induction of our new fellows. We are honored to welcome to the Academy Twana Duncan, Kathleen Higgins, Leta Langford, Nicole Nellis, Paul Shadid and Kara Tims. They have all been outstanding individuals to the profession and community and will be a true asset to the Academy. We were extremely honored to have our PFA 10th District Trustee Lucynda Raben perform the induction ceremony.

In new business the discussion was about the future of our meetings and maintaining the combined format with the other organizations.

Later in the combined meeting program, Lucynda Raben, gave a presentation to the entire group discussing the activities and accomplishments of the national Pierre Fauchard Academy. It was a highly informative and outstanding presentation.

The Oklahoma Chapter of the Pierre Fauchard Academy has been very involved both financially and voluntarily to the Oklahoma Mission of Mercy, a clinic to provide free dentistry to those that are not able to have regular dental care in Oklahoma. This past February, OKMOM was held at the Exchange Center at Expo Square in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We are happy to report that 1079 patients were treated during the event held February 7-8, 2025. Next year OKMOM will be held February 6-7, 2026, in Enid, Oklahoma.

Our next Oklahoma Chapter of the PFA will meet in Norman, Oklahoma in the spring of 2026.
Once again, this will be held in conjunction with the Oklahoma Dental Association Annual Meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

Matthew Cohlmia

Section Chair of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Pierre Fauchard Academy
