Neurodiversity in Dentistry – Dr. Saloni Singh
Interviewed by Dr. Deborah Cockrell
Synopsis
What does it mean to create a workplace where all team members can thrive? This presentation looks at neurodiversity within the dental profession—focusing not on patients, but on ourselves. Although this area has been overlooked in dentistry, early findings from research in other health professions show how simple changes—like clearer communication, reduced sensory load, or more flexible ways of working—can make a big difference. Dr Singh’s upcoming national study, hopes to look at neurodivergent professionals in the dental setting and how creating inclusive environments improves outcomes for them but also for the whole team. As we look towards the future of the dental workforce, building inclusive workplaces may be key to retaining and engaging the next generation of professionals and patients.
